PayByPlateMA Invoice Lookup

Invoice Lookup helps drivers find and pay toll bills linked to their license plate. It is mainly used when a vehicle is not connected to a prepaid toll account (such as E‑ZPass). In that case, toll trips can be matched through a plate search, and invoices may be sent to the registered vehicle owner. This page explains how Invoice Lookup works, how to check an invoice, what fees may apply, what happens if a bill stays unpaid, and how to pay safely.

PayByPlateMA Invoice Lookup is a way to locate toll invoices created through license plate billing. If your plate is not listed under another valid toll payment account, the system may use a plate look-up to identify the vehicle owner, then create an invoice after toll trips are processed.

If you keep traveling without opening an account, invoices may continue to be issued (often as a monthly bill). A small per-invoice processing fee may apply when an invoice is issued.

  1. Go to the PayByPlateMA EZDrive Portal first.
  2. Enter your Invoice Number (best option when available).
  3. If you do not have an invoice number, enter your License Plate Number.
  4. Select the state (if required).
  5. Submit the search and review the invoice details.
  6. Choose a payment method and complete your payment.
  7. Save your confirmation or receipt for your records.
How to Access PayByPlateMA Invoice Lookup?

➡️ Find invoices by invoice number or plate details
➡️ View billed toll trips and the total amount due
➡️ See due dates and any added fees
➡️ Pay online (fast and secure)
➡️ Track ongoing invoices if no PayByPlateMA account is created

Invoice availability depends on processing time after a toll trip is recorded. Some trips may not appear immediately, so a short delay is normal.

Unpaid Invoice Timeline and Added Fees

If a bill remains unpaid, the system may move it through stages. Late fees can increase as time passes.

StageTime to PayDays OutstandingAdded Fees
1st Invoice Issued30 days1–30No late fee
Past Due Invoice30 days31–60$1.00 per overdue toll charge
Notice of Non-Payment30 days61–90An additional $1.00 per overdue toll charge
Notice of Liability*Due immediatelyOver 90Additional $1.00 per overdue toll charge + $20.00 RMV/DMV fee

*If a Notice of Liability is issued, your license and vehicle registration may be subject to a non-renewal hold at the RMV/DMV. If a hold is placed, the balance typically must be paid in full before a release can be processed.

RMV/DMV Release Timing (After Full Payment)

  • Allow 1–2 business days for a release to process after the balance is paid in full.
  • If the account is referred to collections, allow up to 5 business days after full payment.

Why did I receive an invoice instead of an account charge?

This can happen when your plate is not connected to a valid toll account.

Is there a fee on mailed invoices or statements?

Some mailed invoices, mailed statements, and duplicate requests may include a processing fee.

What if my invoice stays unpaid?

Late fees may be added as the invoice moves through later stages, and a Notice of Liability can lead to RMV/DMV actions.

Can I pay by mail?

Yes. You can mail a check to the listed payment processing center and include the invoice number.

How long does an RMV/DMV release take after I pay?

After full payment, releases may take 1–2 business days, or up to 5 business days if referred to collections.
